About

Hi, we are Algarabía Colombiana, a Folkloric Colombian Dance Group in San Diego, California. Algarabía Colombiana began when native Colombian, Nathashia Barney began dancing in Balboa Park in the late 90's and began teaching her two daughters dances such as the Cumbia. They followed after their mothers footsteps and soon had a passion for the Colombian culture and folkloric dances. They soon formed a group of girls and boys of different ages to practice and perform folkloric dances from the many regions of Colombia. Fast forward to 2007, the dance group began to grow but still did not have a name. Eventually Nathashia came up with the name "Algarabía Colombiana" in the summer of 2011. Since then Algarabía Colombiana has gotten bigger and better and has performed for many events and has been featured on Despierta San Diego on Univision for 6 years since 2011. Our dance group is known to be the best groups to perform for the Colombian Independence Day Lawn Program in Balboa Park. Throughout the years our group has expanded to amount to more than 20 dancers of all ages ranging from 5 to 60. Our group has performed in many places around San Diego including the Museum of Man, Christmas on the Prado and Petco Park. A couple of the biggest achievements for this dance group have been going to L.A. in 2011 to participate in a folkloric dance competition and performing for the Buque Escuela Gloria (Colombian Navy) in San Diego in 2013 and 2017.
